Abstract:
India, the mythical Jambudweep, is the largest country in the Indian subcontinent located in modern South Asia. India's geographical extent ranges from 8°4' to 37°6' north latitude and from 68°7' to 97°25' east longitude. India extends 3,294 km from north to south and 2,933 km from east to west. India's coastline is 7,516.6 km long. India is the seventh largest country in the world by geographical area and the second most populous. India is bordered by Pakistan to the west, China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the northeast, and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. In the Indian Ocean, it is bordered by the Maldives to the southwest, Sri Lanka to the south, and Indonesia to the southeast. India shares a border with Afghanistan to the northwest. The Himalayas lie to the north and the Indian Ocean to the south. The Bay of Bengal lies to the east and the Arabian Sea to the west. India has several major rivers. The Ganges River is considered sacred in Indian culture. India shares other major rivers with other major nations.
