Abstract:
This book chapter delves into the captivating journey of Goswami Tulsidas, a prominent saint-poet of the Bhakti movement in India during the 16th century. Tulsidas, best known for his magnum opus, the "Ramcharitmanas," left an indelible mark on Indian literature and spirituality. This chapter explores his remarkable life, the socio-cultural milieu of his era, and the enduring legacy he left behind. Goswami Tulsidas was born in 1532 in Rajapur, a small village in present-day Uttar Pradesh, India. His early life was marked by trials and tribulations, but it was during his formative years that he encountered a deep spiritual awakening. He became a devotee of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu, and this devotion became the cornerstone of his life's work.
