Abstract
ALVARU SWAMY'S NOVEL 'PRAJALA MANISH' - A PORTRAYAL OF SOCIAL LIFE
G. Sukanya
Volume: 2 Issue: 2 2012
Abstract:
Compared to British India, the Nizam state was significantly underdeveloped. Under the Nizam dynasty's rule, the people of this state were lagging behind in all aspects when compared to their Telugu-speaking neighbors. The reasons for this disparity include the educational system, social reforms, railway policies, and postal services introduced during British rule. Although these were implemented for the benefit of the British, they greatly awakened the Telugu populace in British India. In contrast, the Telangana region within the Nizam state was entrenched in feudal systems, jagirdari systems, oppressive landlords, forced labor, monarchy, rigid land ownership systems, heavy taxation, illiteracy, suppression, and outright exploitation. Therefore, several events opposing the Nizam's autocratic rule, as well as the oppression by landlords and feudal lords, inspired many literary works. One such work is Prajala Manishi (The People's Man). The main purpose of this document is to shed light on the living conditions of the people under Nizam rule, the oppressive feudal systems, and the state of public awareness during that period.
