Abstract:
The ordination of women remains an important issue in contemporary theological, ecclesiological, and social debates. In Africa, where the Church occupies a central place in family and community life, this issue takes on particular significance, as women have long participated in the transmission of faith, Christian education, evangelization, and social activities. This article analyzes the position of the New Apostolic Church regarding the ordination of women, highlighting its biblical foundations, doctrinal development, and major theological implications. The study is based on a documentary and hermeneutical analysis of biblical texts and available doctrinal materials. It examines, in particular, Genesis 1:27, Galatians 3:28, the figures of Phoebe, Priscilla, and Junia, as well as biblical passages concerning women's prayer and prophecy. It also considers restrictive passages, notably 1 Timothy 2:11–12 and 1 Corinthians 14:34–35, in order to understand their interpretation in the contemporary context. The findings show that the current position of the New Apostolic Church is not based on an explicit biblical command prescribing the ordination of women, but rather on a comprehensive reading of Scripture combined with an evolving understanding of vocation and ministry. Since January 1, 2023, women have been eligible for ordination as deacons, priests, and apostles, subject to the recognition of their calling by the apostolate. This development opens new theological and ecclesiological perspectives for African Christian communities.
